PPIA Vice Chair, Dr. Sophal Ear, Elected to the Council on Foreign Relations

[Washington, D.C., March 5, 2025] – The Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Program is delighted to announce that Dr. Sophal Ear, Vice Chair of PPIA and a leading academic in the field of global affairs, and world-renowned expert on Cambodia, has been elected as a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), one of the foremost organizations in global policy and international relations.


Dr. Ear’s journey with PPIA began with his participation in the Junior Summer Institute (JSI) at Princeton University in 1994, which set the foundation for his illustrious career in understanding and influencing international policy. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor at the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University, where he focuses on the political economy of pandemics and international development.


“I am honored by this election to CFR as a Life Member and am deeply committed to contributing to the Council’s mission,” Dr. Ear expressed. “My association with PPIA and experiences across the globe will inform my contributions towards CFR’s efforts in shaping robust international policies and engaging in vital global dialogues.”


At CFR, Dr. Ear will engage with other experts in shaping influential research and policy initiatives that address critical international challenges. His extensive expertise will add valuable perspectives to CFR’s work, enhancing their impact on global governance and cooperation.
