Consent to PPIA’s Privacy Policy & Use of Personal Information


IF YOU DO NOT CONSENT TO PPIA’S PROCESSING OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION OUTLINED IN THE PRIVACY POLICY, PLEASE STOP USING THE PPIA WEBSITE AND ENGAGING WITH PPIA EVENTS, ACTIVITIES, PROGRAMS OR OTHERWISE. NOT ALLOWING PPIA TO PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION MAY IMPACT YOUR ABILITY TO BE ENGAGED WITH PPIA IN THE FUTURE.


The Website is not intended for anyone under the age of 16, due to the nature of the personal information we may collect and the need to get valid consent from such a person. Persons wishing to use our Website who are under the age of 16 should do so with a parent or guardian.


By visiting the Website and/or voluntarily disclosing personal information (as defined in the Privacy Policy Notice) when you engage with PPIA, you consent to PPIA processing your personal information for PPIA’s charitable and business operations purposes in accordance with the Privacy Policy Notice as set forth below. PPIA may share your personal information with our institutional partners in furtherance of our charitable programming. 


We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes and uses described in this Policy, including for purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. We may also keep your personal information if legally required or to fulfill another legitimate interest.


Our Website is required to collect, and share with Neon One, “Essential Cookies” for security, verification of identity and network management. Essential Cookies cannot be disabled on our Website, per Neon One. By agreeing to provide optional cookies, you agree to share all such information with PPIA and Neon One for the purposes stated in the consent box on the Website and “Cookies Settings” tab and in accordance with this Policy. 


When you are no longer affiliated with PPIA, we will not collect additional personal information related to you unless you consent or continue to interact with our Website. We may also erase the personal information we already collected in accordance with our policies. If you withdraw your consent, this will not affect the lawfulness of our collecting, use, and sharing of your personal information up to the point in time that you withdraw your consent. Even if you withdraw your consent, we may still use or maintain your personal information to comply with our legal and regulatory requirements, as allowed and/or required by applicable law. 


If you are a user outside of the United States, you consent that your personal information will be transferred, stored, and processed out of your country and into the United States. By submitting your personal information to PPIA, you consent to such transfer through your use of the Website and/or interaction with PPIA. PPIA will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your personal information is treated securely, and in accordance with this Policy, your written requirements, and applicable law. 


This Privacy Policy may change from time to time (see Changes to PPIA's Privacy Policy). Your continued use of this Website and/or participation in PPIA programs/activities/events after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check the Policy periodically for updates.

Introduction 


Public Policy & International Affairs Program ("PPIA” or “We”) respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this Privacy Policy (“Policy”).


This Policy describes the types of personal information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website www.ppiaprogram.org (our "Website") and in our interactions with you in furtherance of our charitable and business operations purposes. This Policy also describes our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that personal information. Accordingly, your disclosure of personal information to us and your use of PPIA’s Website is governed by this Policy. Personal information is also information that identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or reasonably can be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular individual. 


This Policy does not apply to non-personal information or personal information collected by your use of any other websites operated by PPIA or any third party (including our affiliates and subsidiaries), or any third party site (including our affiliates and subsidiaries; including personal information obtained through any application or content; and including advertising) that may link to or be accessible from or through the Website.


Collection of Personal Information


PPIA will not collect personal information about you from third parties except (1) where such personal information is made publicly available (e.g. phone books or directories (including electronic), linked-in, professional certifications, etc.), (2) from government or third party services in furtherance of due diligence, counter-terrorism, and fraud detection and prevention, and/or (3) as directed by you in writing. 


PPIA collects personal information through two ways. First is voluntary disclosure, and second is passive, through use of our Website.


Your Voluntary Disclosure of Personal Information


When interacting with PPIA either on our Website or in the course of a PPIA event or other engagement, you may elect to provide us with your personal information, including but not limited to your contact and demographic data (including but not limited to options to disclose race, ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation). Personal information may be collected from you on the Website, direct signups, surveys, agreements, applications, donations, and disclosures. By voluntarily disclosing such personal information to us, you expressly permit PPIA’s use of your personal information. 


PPIA may request your personal information to participate in the organization’s business purposes and charitable activities. If you choose not to provide your personal information, it may result in your inability to participate in PPIA’s charitable activities.


PPIA and PPIA’s Website host Neon One may associate the personal information you voluntarily disclose to us with the personal information we collect when you visit PPIA’s Website. See Neon One’s privacy policy for more information on Neon One’s privacy. 


You also should be aware that if you include personal information such as your name in a comment on the Website, such personal information becomes public information. 


For clarity, payment information may be collected from you on our Website from partners using secure, third-party services, such as Neon One, PayPal, and Stripe. The privacy of your payment information is governed by the terms of use of the third party service provider.

However, by not accepting any cookies, some of our Website pages may not fully function and you may not be able to access certain information on our Website.


Use of Personal Information


We may use your personal information to:

• Contact you regarding requests or comments submitted by you on the “contact” or “blog” pages of our website; 

• Provide you or your organization with the services agreed upon in writing;

• Connect students interested in careers and advanced education in public service to PPIA projects and/or programs;

• Share student personal information with schools and partners in our Graduate School Consortium 

• Provide specific marketing and communication on upcoming programming; and

• Better understand Website visitors behavior;

• Improve our overall Website, donation links and advertising;

• Provide our Website visitors with more useful information about PPIA, PPIA programs, program alumni, ways to donate, or the Website in general.


Please note, we might also aggregate the information we collect in order to make use of it; aggregated data is considered non-personal information and is not covered under this Policy. If we combine non-personal information with personal information, the combined information will be treated as personal information for as long as it remains combined.


Sharing of Personal Information


PPIA will not sell your personal information. PPIA will not share your personal information with third parties except as outlined in this Policy without your prior written agreement. Personal information may be shared with organizations and individuals whom you provide consent.


Personal information may be shared with institutions in our network for charitable purposes, including but not limited to the Graduate School Consortium. Submitted applications to any PPIA program are shared with employees and volunteers within PPIA and our Graduate School Consortium for review and participant selection. Names and images may appear on the Website of individuals who have previously participated in our programming. The Graduate School Consortium list is also updated and shared on our Website.


PPIA may share personal information such as your name and birth date (where necessary ) with third parties, vendors or government agencies solely for purposes of employment or contracting, due diligence, counter-terrorism, and fraud detection and prevention. 


PPIA may share your personal information as required by law or pursuant to legal processes, in order to comply with requests from a court, government officials, regulators, or law enforcement. PPIA may also share your personal information if PPIA believes in good faith that disclosure is necessary to prevent financial losses or bodily harm or injury, and we will use reasonable efforts to inform you of any such disclosure.

Please note that any links to third-party websites from our Website will contain their own privacy policies and terms and conditions. PPIA does not make any representation regarding privacy on any third-party website.


Security of Personal Information 


Your personal information will be stored by PPIA electronically except where mandated by law (i.e. for employment purposes). Personal information is collected securely on this Website through surveys & signups, through surveys conducted on third-party platforms (such as Google Suite), through programming application submissions through third-party platforms (such as SmarterSelect), and through other administrative processes initiated by PPIA staff and volunteers.


PPIA will store your personal information locally as well as use third party services (including but not limited to Google.com, which shall at a minimum maintain password protection and use industry-standard encryption or better). PPIA will ensure that your personal information is securely stored with password protected access. PPIA will ensure that only those on a need-to-know basis have access to your information, and are required to follow the obligations set forth in this Policy. 


Please note, however, despite our efforts to protect the personal information provided by you, the transmission of personal information via the internet is not completely secure, and therefore unfortunately we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted via the internet. 


Rights to Your Personal Information


PPIA will respect the rights you have under any data protection law applicable to you.


Regardless of your location or applicable law PPIA will afford you the ability: 

• To obtain confirmation that your personal information that is being processed by PPIA; 

• To access and receive a copy of your personal information;

• To confirm that your personal information is accurate;

• To correct and/or make changes to your personal information held by PPIA;

• To request and confirm your personal information be deleted by PPIA, if you submit a written request;

• To obtain portability of your personal information held by PPIA;

• To request restriction of your personal information (which means we limit the access to your data) if you submit a written request;

• To withdraw your consent for PPIA processing your personal information by written request;

• To raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal information by contacting us and we will investigate the matter and respond to you promptly.


Residents of any location for which a data privacy law would be implicated by this Policy, including but not limited to the European Economic Area, Switzerland, UK, some States in the United States, and other applicable jurisdictions, may have additional rights afforded to them by law.


If you request PPIA delete your personal information on the Website, such a request will be forwarded by PPIA to our hosting service, Neon One where necessary. Please note that participation in PPIA events, programs, and services may be affected by any such requests. 


Changes to PPIA’s Privacy Policy and Contacting PPIA 


PPIA reserves the right to make changes to this policy at any time, which shall take effect immediately upon publication to PPIA’s Website. 


For any questions about this Policy or to exercise any rights under this Policy or applicable law, please contact office@ppiaprogram.org or submit an inquiry on our Website at the “Contact” page. When you submit a request, please indicate your name, the name of the relevant project (if any), your reasons for making the request, if necessary, and other details you think will be useful for us to support your request. PPIA may request additional identity verification before taking action. PPIA may in its sole discretion decline any request unless mandated by applicable law. 


PPIA does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, or experience of forced displacement in any of its activities or operations including administration of this Policy.

This Policy shall be read in conjunction with all applicable laws and regulations. In case any part of this Policy is found to conflict with any applicable law, such conflicting provision shall be considered removed without effect to the remainder of the policy.
