Washington, DC, 9/18/2012. The Public Policy and International Affairs Program (PPIA) and UNCF Special Programs Corporation’s (UNCFSP) Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) are excited to announce a new partnership! This partnership will expand the growing network of minority international affairs professionals and more intentionally connect likeminded individuals to one another. PPIA and IIPP believe this partnership showcases the strength of both organizations in preparing students and young professionals for internationally focused careers.

In light of recent funding cuts to internationally focused training programs like IIPP, it is imperative that we build continuity between our programs to ensure the pipeline of minority international affairs professionals remains strong. With the small number of training programs focused on giving high achieving minority students’ access to the tools and preparation needed to enter the field of international affairs and service, the partnership is a natural step to building a broader base of professionals in the field. The partnership will offer IIPP and PPIA fellows an opportunity to connect through the PPIA online community, during coordinated alumni activities, and through the PPIA quarterly newsletter.

Since 1994 IIPP has placed more than 350 Fellows in more than 50 countries across the globe to study foreign affairs and public policy. Paired with the more than 30 years of experience of the PPIA program, IIPP and PPIA fellows will not only have the opportunity to connect with a broader network of professionals, they will also be able to share information related to graduate school, career advice, mentoring, and more. The partnership will allow us all to make progress towards accomplishing the goal of diversifying the field of international affairs.
