17th Annual Public Service Expo
With more than 600 registered attendees and 80 exhibitors, the PPIA Public Service Expo on July 12th in Washington, DC was a success! PPIA JSI Fellows from Princeton University and Carnegie Mellon University heard a keynote speech from Congressman Joaquin Castro before attending sessions with PPIA alumni, graduate school admissions representatives, the Government Accountability Office, and the Congressional Budget Office.
11 Public Service Weekends
Including first-time conferences hosted by Seton Hall University – School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Virginia Commonwealth University – Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, The New School – Milano School of Policy, Management, and Environment, and UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. More than 300 college students and recent grads had the opportunity to explore the broad range of opportunities available in the field of public service. Read recaps of the conferences here.
135 New Junior Summer Institute Fellows
This year, we welcomed 135 new JSI Fellows to the PPIA alumni network. Carnegie Mellon University added a Data Analytics track to its Junior Summer Institute for the first time. Students on this track are passionate about using big data and technology for social good.
3 New Consortium Members
We welcomed the University of Delaware Biden School of Public Policy & Administration, Virginia Commonwealth University Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, and Penn State University School of Public Policy to the consortium. These institutions share PPIA’s commitment to increasing inclusion and participation of underrepresented groups in public service and are committed to supporting our fellows in their pursuit of a graduate education.

In March, we launched a LinkedIn page to provide a space for sharing opportunities related to public policy and international affairs careers and education for alumni and community members alike. Follow the page here.
7 Opportunities for National Outreach
This year, PPIA had a presence at more than 7 conferences including Harvard Kennedy School’s PPLC, CFR’s Conference on Diversity in International Affairs, Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA), IREX Impact Fellowship Summit, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference, Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM), and Diversity Abroad.
40th Anniversary Planning Has Begun
Planning for PPIA’s 40th anniversary is in progress. Look for additional information in early 2020. This will be an opportunity to celebrate and reconnect with the more than 4,000 Sloan, Woodrow Wilson, IIPP and PPIA Fellows who are all part of our alumni network.
